President of Norwegian Parliament visited Schools for Democracy

19 September, President of the Norwegian Parliament, Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen, visited Kyiv School 292 that takes part in the third cycle of EWC's Schools for Democracy Programme in Ukraine.


Mrs Trøen was delighted to meet school administration, teachers and students, and discuss among others, the students’ participation in school governance. Students in their turn were excited to share their views and ideas on the democratic processes in the school and were interested in recommendations on how to build an effective governance team in a democratic way. Mrs Trøen mentioned that democracy is a continuous process and it develops step by step, it is an everyday hard work.

President and president, posted Mrs Trøen on her Facebook feed, posing with 15 years old student Dima who was elected president of the school parliament last year.

“We focus first and foremost on our students, it is them who set the tone”, school principal Olga Slobodianiuk said. School self-governance is one of the focus areas for democratic development of the school during the participation of the EWC School for Democracy Programme.

Ukraine needs a generation of young people that understand and practise democratic values, noted President Trøen.

Kyiv school 292 is one of the 120 Ukrainian schools taking part in EWC School for Democracy Programme.
